Blab here to win a free scarf!
I like the contests that are popping up everywhere in blog land lately that instruct you to leave a comment for a chance to win something. Personally, I like free things, and I like winning things. Hey... I bet you do too.
PURPOSE: to find out if anyone reads this blog (sometimes I sort of wonder...)
PRIZE: one lucky reader will win a scarf of his/her choice. we'll even throw in free shipping!
REASON: everyone else is doing it, so why not us too? Also, after watching that sappy heart-jerking video of Barack Obama and his saint-like path to washington, DC that played at the DNC last night, we feel inspired to give back to OUR community. Hopefully next week, a John McCain TV montage will also inspire us to give out something free. (Like..... our TV)
I kid.
GUIDELINES: After digesting the Convention, we watched old episodes of Batman cartoons that phil rented from the UMBC library, which are kinda cool and art deco.Funny to re-watch things like this and hear all the extra jokes you missed as a kid and see how much went into each episode. Phil is teaching a few classes this semester at UMBC and Towson, and uses lots of animated clips (thanks Albert for the ones you sent) as part of his lessons.
For the prize: What was or is YOUR favorite cartoon?
GO! (contest ends next wednesday- check back here to see if you've won!!) :)

Huckleberry Hound
Well, you already know I read, so it is not much of a surprise. BUT I loved the smurfs, jetsons and heman among others...I could go on forever about early 80's Saturday am tv. Love it!@
well hello there. the scarves look great!
DANGER MOUSE!!!!
How about lame-est cartoon?
Jabber Jaw.
I LOVED the smurfs as a kid. Also, GummiBears! and Jem! He-man! If you go back and watch those old cartoons, they are kind of scary now but totally awesome.
la-laaaa-la-la-la-laaaaa
tiny toon adventures and muppet babies!!! wow. how i wish i was eating some sugary cereal laying on the floor in front of the tv right now. . .
Punky Brewster. Glomer was hilarious.
These days, I'm a big fan of The Venture Bros., but I also lurve Futurama (am I the only one?). Back in the day it was the Smurfs and Thundercats. Way back in the day it was Bugs Bunny and friends on Sat mornings.
I loved Fraggle Rock....okay not a cartoon but still awesome.
For cartoons I liked Wuzzles, GI Joe, Jem, Gummi Bears, and the Snorks....I bet there were a ton more but I don't recall them...Remember the claymation commericals on ABC. like "after these messages we'll be right back" and it would be a cowboy w/ a guitar and the horse would fall on him...good times
Oh LOVED Jem (Jem is excitement)...but I must share a semi-recent discovery of "Vampiros en la Habana!" (Vampires in Havana). It's an animated Cuban film that made me smile and want to salsa dance.
Besos a Rachel!
A toss up for me between Ren & Stimpy and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...though Batman "the animated series" and Muppet Babies are close seconds. Oh yeah and Tailspin and Dino Riders were pretty rad too. Maybe if I don't win, I'll just steal a scarf from the pile in the basement. hehe.
I loved smurfs, and the less popular Snorks. Snorks is on top for me.
when i was young i loved batman but these days my absolute favorite is fosters home for imaginary friends - way too cute and the character design is amazing
He-man and the Masters of the Universe. And Thundercats!
ren and stimpy and beavis and butthead
My favorite cartoon has always been Rocky & Bullwinkle.
garfield. figures.
the old batman, of course!
Hi,
I love cartoons but my favorite has to be Nemo. The reason being I can identify myself with him. In fact most people can. He's the kind of guy who gets told by others that he cannot do a certain thing, which then makes him kinda rebellious. But the most important thing is even though he feels he may lack certain powers, he is determined to overcome the odds. Easy enough to be my favorite. :-)

An utterly bizarre British one called Trapdoor - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtGU6VBsUbQ, it's truly, amazingly surreal. Hooray for Claymation!
My favorite cartoon in the 80s was Dungeons and Dragons on Saturday mornings. There wasn't any of this cartoon nework stuff back then.
My favorite cartoon character was Pepe Le Pew (is that how you spell his name?) He was the horny little skunk that bounded along after the poor French cat. Actually, maybe I liked her more. I liked it when she sought cover behind a door or in a bin somewhere and she would be chest heavingly exhausted saying 'le pant....le puff...' Jen........Oh and I liked Top Cat too!
The Necromancer from Venture Bros.
(Basically the part where he announces that he had Taco Bell for lunch during the Trial of the Monarch.)
Well... I was one of those deprived kids that never had cable. But I do remember loving Rainbow Brite, the Jetsons, and Denver the last Dinosaur.
My favorite cartoon as a kid was Scooby Doo. It's a good thing I like it still, because my son is very into Scooby Doo right now!
Gosh, tough call. But I'd have to say Animaniacs. I loved it so much that I learned the All the Countries of the World song. I think I could probably still sing it today! ("United States, Canada, Mexico, Panama, Haiti, Jamaica, Peru!")
I was TOTALLY a Ninja Turtles junkie when I was a kid. I even got teenage mutant nija turtles action figures from the toothfairy:) Love your scarves!
Wonderwoman...duh :)
great choices so far! keep em coming through tomorrow- i'm really enjoying hearing all of these and can't wait until i have enough time to track some of these down and watch them.
I regularly get the gummi bears song stuck in my head, even now. i'm still trying to come up with my absolute favorite. I think it'd probably go back further than that... I was a big fan of Chip & Dale (the originals...AND the rescue rangers)
did i post to this yet? i can't remember. we don't get disqualified if we post twice do we? that would be mean. anyway, it's gotta be underdog, right?
Pinky and the Brain! Hm - or maybe Ninja Turtles. Its a tough call.
chipmunks
Hmmm... that's tough. I'd have to say Scooby Doo, Smurfs and Thunder Cats! All excellent!
Hands down The Simpsons, Batman: The Animated Series and Family Guy.
