Our DIY Wedding Invitation

Apologies for all the Wedding talk lately, but it seems to be always on my mind. I'm happy to say we are at the stage where we've sent out most of our invitations, and are feeling our first big sense of relief. We always knew we'd want to make our own wedding invitations, but I have to say... I'm really extra proud of how ours turned out, and I thought some of you might like to sneak a peak. I designed the "album" cover with our wonderful friend Ben Whitla.

Then I screenprinted both that and the RSVP's (which are indeed a mad lib) by hand. Each one came with a DVD printed with an original drawing of us by Phil. Wondering what was on the DVD that Phil made (almost entirely on his own. I only helped color each frame)?:

Hoorayyyy!!!!!!! If you don't know yet about our incredible barf-happy pet, the esteemed Mr. Sammy, then you wouldn't find it nearly as funny as we do that he made it into the animation. He is as much a member of our family as either of us, though, and it seemed only right that he be part of our wedding animation. (Sadly, he will stay home for the actual wedding).

Will continue posting photos of wedding stuff, whether you like it or not (sorry). I know our invite gets a bit goofy, but I hope it's clear that we love each other very much, and that we love all of the Red Prairie Press community. Thank you, as always for being an enormous part of our lives!

You do realize all your replies will look the same?

On July 5th, when Rachel and Phil farted down the aisle, Farty will be there to fart at them.
When we farted the invitation, we exclaimed "fart"!?!!??!?!!??!!!
We are so farty for Phil and Rachel.
They are our most farty farts, and we wish them fart years of happiness and farting with each other.

Thanks Guys! (and thanks Peacock Chic for mentioning it was on the Craft Blog! What an honor!!!)
Tom- You are very right. The word Fart has appeared more than once. Maybe I'll post some of the better responses we get in a few weeks!

Omg, how adorable. I didn't even know you were engaged, so my belated congratulations! It was great running into you at the Book Thing the other week, hope to see you again soon.

My fiance and I absolutely love that your RSVP is a madlib (and our date may be July 5 '09, so its fate lol). Can I ask your permission to do something similar?

I just got engaged last week so my head is on full-on wedding mode! We've been researching invites and save the date cards etc but man those things are waaaay pricy. I definitely want to buy or commission something from an independent seller/crafter though. Your invites just blow me away!

There are custom printed discs at Etsy

Rachel Bone said...

OF COURSE, Marielle! I'm flattered!
Consequently, If i hadn't had wonderful parents who bought madlibs for long car trips, I wouldn't have had the inspiration to begin with!!

is mr. sammy part mainecoon? :) he looks so much like my mr. menace!

love the invites and movie!

Rachel Bone said...

agghhh!!!!!!!!! They. are. TWINS.
I got him at an SPCA in Syracuse, NY and they had no clue what he was. Many people have said he's part Maine Coon... but I don't know for sure. Do you?? He is the second love of my life, and on my lap as I write this.

lb said...

haha same here! menace is from a shelter as well, here in NC -- he's part mainecoon -- has a great personality, kind of "chirps" instead of meows, LOADS of hair (and hairballs - ha) and they definitely love laps! they are very gentle cats, super affectionate and act almost dog-like.

sorry to hijack your invites thread -- i've just never seen such a twin for menace!!

Congratulations! I am very excited to see the amazing energy and thoughtfulness you guys are putting into all your endeavors.

When are you taking Scott's tour? I hope to run into you this summer.

This is such a great idea and one that is catching on with creative couples. I would suggest for those without as much artistic talent as our host to use a disc printer known as the DiscPainter. It allows the easy design and printing of color images directly on a disc. Unfortunately it will not print invitations...

Hands down the most awesome invite I've ever seen in my whole life. Well done.

That is fricking genius. Just one of the best things I've ever seen. It almost makes me want to get married.

I love the barfing cat!

I really like this invite, it is quite originally made. Also, is that a DVD invitation. I have found a DVD invitation company called Silver Screen Invites.

What an amazing job on your invites! I'm thinking DVD but am intimidated by the covers more than anything. How did you do yours or did you have someone do them for you? I mean what size paper, etc.? These are brilliant - just awesome!
