Happy Thanksgiving! Now get to work!!

So many more quality shots of this past weekend on my camera, but no time to upload them!
here is a teaser of what went on at the Bone-Davis camp. Food, Fun, Cotton Monster loving, and even some t-shirt printing! We had 13 wonderful friends & family members (sometimes, it's hard to say a difference, in my mind) here for Thanksgiving, a big delicious menu, a singalong a trip to the botanical garden in Druid Hill park, some basketball playing (indoors), some nintendo playing (of course) and lots & lots of love all around. After turkey day (or in my case, Seitan day) I drove to NH with my parents to go to the engagement party of one of my best & oldest girlfriends and now i'm just off the plane back in Baltimore, ready for printing. The press is heating up, it's raining outside, and there's nowhere I'm going to be this week besides this happy home-studio. Did I mention my family & friends are the BEST?

PS

Did I say I was taking the day off the internet? Right. Off I go. BUT, I'm mighty proud that I can see the color of my desk, and thought you'd like to see the office, as it gets cleaner by the minute. Who WOULDN'T want to work in this glorious room, I dare you to answer negatively!? I am thankful for my job. Thankful for you. Thankful for my willpower to stop working. I can do it anytime I want. I swear. No really. I swear.

Foodiest.

Taking the rest of the week off the internet to pack & ship the rest of my lingering orders, clean our dusty house and prepare for a feast of all feasts. If you need entertainment, check out our meticulously labeled meal from last year.

i won't let you in on the secrets planned for this Thanksgiving, except to say that many a Bone, Davis & Hanna are coming to Baltimore and feasting & being Thankful with us and a few of our closest friends on Thursday, and I'm so excited I might explode like the cranberries in the chutney I just stewed up. Pop.

Enjoy your holiday, eat too much, take a nap, do the dishes. Thanks for being here.

Duck Soup at the Charles Tonight

If I had time today, I would go watch Duck Soup at the Charles Theatre. One of my favorite movies of all time.
"The Marx Brothers' best movie (1933) and, not coincidentally, the one with the strongest director—Leo McCarey, who had the flexibility to give the boys their head and the discipline to make some formal sense of it. Groucho is Rufus T. Firefly, brought in by Margaret Dumont to restore order to the crumbling country of Freedonia; his competition consists of two bumbling spies, Chico and Harpo, sent in by the failed Shakespearean actor (Louis Calhern) who runs the country next door. The antiwar satire is dark, trenchant, and typical of Paramount's liberal orientation at the time. 70 min. (Dave Kehr)"

Vendor Features on CCCM Blog!

We're featuring one awesome Holiday Heap vendor every day until the December 5th craft fair over on the Charm City Craft Mafia blog! I've had the pleasure of writing up everyone's favorite Bmore soap sisters Biggs & Featherbelle & my Pittsburgh pals Tugboat Printshop so far. Just lined up 4 more features scheduled for this week, and Heather & Jen are making some stellar finds as well! What fun to drool over everyone's work before the show! Reminds me I should be in the studio printing, and not on the computer swooning. Back to the basement I go.

Helping Hand

You may notice the trend of my absence from blogland this time of year, as things get busy, I start printing like a maniac and wrecking my wrists & back through the holidays. I've fallen upon a joyous surprise this week, as my long-time family friend, Benny, has come into town to stay with us and ended up helping out in the studio. I'm old enough to just barely remember being in the hospital when this shining face was born. I "babysat" him through junior high (though he's really not that much younger, we've decided we were mainly just trusted as a duo to not blow things up). I used to cross country ski down the railroad track that connected his family's house to mine... and a few years ago, unrelated to this longtime friendship, Phil's sister ended up marrying his older brother. Small world. (NH is a particularly small world).
Regardless. What a treat to have him by my side all week packing orders, tying hangtags until his fingers bleed, learning to print and mastering the art of the tape gun. I am also getting more done myself, as someone is there watching me, thus I do not come upstairs to the office every 10 minutes to see if I've won the indonesian internet lottery in my gmail, or if anyone has posted anything new to regretsy. After additionally having great help from Allie, the CCCM intern, what I'm realizing is that I need/love/work well with an intern. so.... there.
Thanks Benny for all your company, enthusiasm & hard work!

Foxtastic.

from the ny times website

Wes Anderson's first animated feature film comes out today nationwide. I'm pretty much exploding with excitement... especially since the story is Fantastic Mr. Fox, by none other than BFG mastermind Roald Dahl. Oh children's stories. Oh children's books. Oh big creepy colorful animated worlds. Oh Friday mornings spent swooning over it all...

from The Shiny Squirrel

print by Julianna Swaney for The Shiny Squirrel. Love these illustrations.

"The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy brown dog." An animation created by French company "The Lazy Dog" for their 6th anniversary party. Just watched the movie helvetica, and now all I can think about is fonts. (and foxes).

Concrete Ferns Pocket Dress

A great day here yesterday...The supremely awesome Allie - Craft Mafia Intern Extrordinaire - spent the day here at Red Prairie Press helping out. What a gal. What gusto. What talent. More on her soon.
Hit 900 sales on etsy, got lots of work done, ate a burrito bol from Chipotle (well... most of one), and finally got some sale tees, as well as this lovely new dress, up in the Etsy shop.
Then went to the Artisan Market at Village Learning Place where Phil & I talked to some local artisans & ate BOTH a delicious homemade crepe AND a delicious homemade cupcake. Oh holiday treats. I love and dread you every year.

And now, to locate health vision, and execute a healthy day.

Perception.

From the Washington Post.
"Washington, DC Metro Station on a cold January morning. A man with a violin plays six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time approx. 2 thousand people passed through the station, most of them on their way to work. After 3 minutes a middle-aged man noticed there was a musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried to meet his schedule.
A 3-year old boy stopped but his mother tugged him along hurriedly. The kid stopped to look at the violinist again, but the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk, turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. Every parent, without exception, forced their children to move on quickly.
The musician played continuously. Only 6 people stopped and listened for a short while. About 20 gave money but continued to walk at their normal pace. The man collected a total of $32.
He finished playing. No one noticed. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.
No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the greatest musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin valued at $3.5 million dollars. Two days before, Joshua Bell sold out a theater in Boston where the price of seats averaged $100. Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and people's priorities. The questions raised: in a commonplace environment at an inappropriate hour, do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we recognize talent in an unexpected context? If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world, playing some of the finest music ever written, with one of the most beautiful instruments ever made... what else are we missing?"

SALE SCARVES UP ON ETSY NOW!

I'm sure it comes as a real shocker, but since I print everything by hand, I sometimes make mistakes by way of putting ink in places it shouldn't be... or not putting enough ink in places it SHOULD be...
From time to time, I find myself with a pile of misprint or slightly off center print, or fingerprinted pieces of apparel I can't sell at full price. When this happens, I put them up on etsy for cheap hot steal prices! Usually the imperfections are so slight that you can't even tell they're there, unless you've been printing them all day, and know what a good one looks like.
Take advantage of my clutziness today! Adopt a SALE scarf, and wear it like it's vintage!

Best Tattoo Ever.

My pal Juliet, who runs The Broken Plate Pendant Company (yup, smashing plates for a living), just got this amazing tattoo, inspired by one of her favorite plates. I think this might just be my favorite tattoo I've ever seen. So fitting, and relevant.
As someone far too indecisive to ever choose something to put on my body 4eva, I'm happy to live vicariously through friends, especially if they are making such awesome decisions.

Buy me this

am I allowed to wear tights? I know leggings are still totally rad... but are tights still okay to wear? I got in trouble the other day for wearing china flats and get told I look "very L.L. Bean" all time...so I'm quite self conscious lately.
anyway, if i'm allowed to wear tights, i choose these.

United Thread

Absolutely beautiful fall day here. I've just been out doing errands and almost can't stand coming back indoors... and even less do I want to go down to the basement and print, which is what I'm about to do...
Before that, I think I'll gaze happily at these nice gouache illustrations from United Thread on Etsy. Makes me happy when simple things look so nice.

Jack -Hammer & -O'lanterns

Check out the new music video Phil just finished for our friends The Spinto Band! This is a new song (Jackhammer) off their latest EP. Catch them on tour now!
He scanned hundreds of hands, faces, natural objects & instruments with the top off the scanner to make this.
Pretty frickin' cool, huh!?
Also, here are our Jack-o-lanterns from our first halloween on Abell Ave. We learned this weekend that next year, 10 bags of candy isn't enough. you need 100 bags of candy. I've never had trickortreaters in my life, and it was so fun to sit out on the porch with our awesome neighbors and hand out sugar to the hoards of passing hypermunchkins.
